Company Brochure
High-tech company with long-term experience
Lauterbach Datentechnik GmbH was founded in 1979 by Lothar Lauterbach and
has over 25 years experience in the field of development tools and embedded designs.
Lauterbach is an independent, privately owned company that has produced exceptional
growth for many years. The company, already established as a technology leader,
has evolved into one of the global market leaders.
Technical know-how at the highest level
Both software and hardware for all products is developed in Hofolding,
near Munich, the corporate headquarters. 80% of the workforce is a software
or hardware engineer and those not directly involved in engineering are
working in sales, support and marketing. The company attaches great importance
to a very high technical level and only the latest development methods are used.
This sound technical know-how has a high priority in the sales, support and training
departments contributing to the technical expertise that is highly rated by customers
across the world.
Worldwide presence
Lauterbach is an internationally well-established company with blue chip customers
from every corner of the globe. It is represented in all countries at the forefront
of embedded design and international sales, marketing and support activities are
directed from corporate headquarters in Hofolding, Germany. The company has it's own branch
offices in the United Kingdom and on both the east and west coasts of the United States.
In all other countries Lauterbach co-operates with competent partner companies and has
long-standing relationships with most of these, guaranteeing global supply and support
for Lauterbach products.
Time to market
The concept of "time to market" which applies to Lauterbach customers is even more
relevant for Lauterbach which must be ready with appropriate tools for the very
latest generations of microprocessor devices when customers want to start developing.
Time and again Lauterbach has demonstrated this capability thanks to the high level
of co-operation and information exchange between them and the industry's leading semi
conductor manufacturers.

Our product philosophy |
Everything from a single source
Everything that is required for emulation, debugging, real-time trace and logic
analysis in embedded designs can be supplied by Lauterbach. Since all of the
software and hardware modules are developed by Lauterbach in Hofolding this
ensures optimum integration between individual components.
Open system
Lauterbach systems have open interfaces to other products in the tool chain.
Long-standing partnerships with all well-known suppliers in the embedded sector
guarantee un-paralleled inter-operation. For example, TRACE32 already offers
exceptional integration with numerous compilers, real-time operating systems
and case tools, all of which have been extensively tested under practical conditions.
Open user interface for everything
All Lauterbach products are supplied with the same TRACE32-PowerView user interface.
Customers who have been trained once will find it easy to switch to any other system in
the range of TRACE32 products.
Long-term investment through modularity and compatibility
The decision to make Lauterbach systems modular and to provide an open interface
has meant that customers can protect their investment and guard against obsolescence.
First generation TRACE32 systems have been compatible with follow up devices for
over 10 years. Systems are easily scalable so that an entry-level system can be
upgraded with additional technology without a problem and at a low cost.
The full array of architectures supported
With very few exceptions TRACE32 is able to support all well-known processor
architectures from 8-bit to 64-bit. Customers increasingly demand this unique
feature because development cycles of modern products are becoming shorter and
it is often necessary to change to another suitable processor for the next project.
The ability for the same tools with little or no modification to be used is a real
plus for Lauterbach systems. Today more than 1000 different microcontrollers are supported.

Market Position
Lauterbach's growth in the last five years has been between 20 and 50% per annum with the result that they
are now the No.1 in Europe and US for hardware based embedded debug tools.
The company is very strong both technologically and financially and their customers
can be found in most technology based industries including telecommunications, navigation, automotive, control
equipment, aerospace and so on. They work very closely with these customers to ensure that their needs shape
the concepts and tools that are developed. They also work very closely with the semiconductor manufacturers
to ensure that early support for new chips is available and indeed, many of their new designs are often the
first tools available for the processor in the market. For example, Lauterbach were the first to support
68HC08, 68060, H8/300H, 68HC12, NEXUS, Super10, and many other processors.
While most competitors dropped back in 2002 and 2003, Lauterbach is still extending revenues significantly and
increasing the marked share.

Location |
Offices
Lauterbach Datentechnik’s head office near Munich handles development, customer training, European support
and maintenance with over half the staff being highly-qualified hardware or software engineers.
One office in Marlborough, MA and one in Tigard, OR are providing service and support for U.S. customers.
In 2000 a new subsidary in England was established.
Highly qualified sales and support engineers are also available in 15 other countries and since many of these
representatives are themselves manufacturers of microprocessor development systems, they can provide the
highest levels of local customer service and support.
